ODS – Operating Deflection Shape
Engefaz designs, develops and supplies vibration analysis monitoring technology and services.
Identification of the cause of excessive vibration in large machines and structures through simulation and analysis of dynamic behavior.
What is ODS Analysis?
ODS analysis is a method used to visualize the vibration patterns of a machine or structure caused by known or unknown operating forces.
Why perform ODS Analysis?
Using modal analysis and ODS tools, it is much easier to understand the effects of a vibration problem. Both types of tools allow you to assess whether a vibration problem is related to forced vibrations or to the structural system itself.

When should ODS Analysis be applied?
Typically, ODS analysis is recommended to investigate:
The vibration of a structure as a function of time;
The vibration patterns of a structure at specific frequencies under steady-state conditions;
The vibration patterns of a structure at specific frequencies as a function of rotation speed;
The vibration patterns of a structure in specific orders as a function of rotation speed.
What answers are obtained through the ODS Analysis?
ODS measurements are necessary to answer vibration-related questions such as:
How much is a given structure moving?
Where does it move the most and in what direction?
What is the deflection of one point relative to another?
Repair actions reduced vibration levels?
What are the possible flaws found through the ODS Analysis?
Normally, forced vibration in response to the modal structure occurs due to the main factors such as:
Internally generated forces of rotating parts of a machine;
Imbalances of rotary shafts;
Externally applied loads;
Natural frequency excitation.
